Untold - April 2009

Barely a year after his first release and Untold (aka North London native Jack Dunning) is becoming oen of the most talked about Producers in underground music. Bought to a lot of people's attention through his 2008 12" on Hessle Audio (our's included) but also responsible for a handful of releases on Hotflush and his own Hemlock imprint the Untold sound takes in elements of 2-step, techno and golden age jungle, but with none of the Frankenstein'ish monotony these hybrids often fall into. Championed by the likes of Toddla T, Appleblim and Ramadanman and with a ton of releases inbound this year, including the Dante/Sweat double header and the colossal Anaconda all available for preview below. He'll also be making his debut at our parent venue in just a few weeks time, as part of the Hessle Audio takeover of room 3, but more news on that in due course..

Martyn - April 2009

Next Monday see's the long awaited release of Martyn's Great Lengths LP. We've waxed lyrical already about this album, but if you've somehow our missed frothing and raving let's just say it's an early candidate for album of the year by an artist with a sound completely his own. To prove we're not entirely biased, we hear that Rough Trade have just made it one of their album's of the week, and radio sessions are due any day now for Giles Peterson and Rob Da Bank respectively. A sneak preview's available at the audio link below after which we suggest you go forth and multi buy.

Oliver Lang - April 2009

Manchester domiciled and Ibizia hardened, tech-house up & comer Oliver Lang is the latest 4-4 addition to the Fabric Publishing stable. A resident at Bora Bora on teh aqforementioned den of inequity, as well as Area 51 bacjk in his hometown. Tagged by Mixmag as it's 'Future Hero Of House' Oliver spent 2008 honing his production skills with tracks including a widely acclaimed Jamiroquai remix and solo standout 'Bomb The Terrace' on Azuli Records, getting regular support from the likes of Sasha and Carl COx. This year is in the man's own words 'all about the tunes' with releases due on Blackhole Records, and some very interesting remix work indeed.

Claude VonStroke – March 2009

Another one who’s been keeping a low profile (if you ignore a fully booked global schedule of DJ dates anyway..) has been Dirtybird overseer and tech-funk saviour Claude VonStroke. May 2009 will see the first new material for a while appear as part of Fabric 46: Claude VonStroke, a 26 track mix CD taking in everything between Stimming and DJ Deeon. As well as a host of new Dirtybird and Mothership tracks, the mix also includes his upcoming Bootsy Collins collaboration ‘The Greasy Beat’ and the stunning set closer ‘Aundy’. Plenty more Dirtybird and Mothership news to come – like we said, this is just the beginning..

Caspa – March 2009

April sees the long awaited release of Caspa’s debut album ‘Everybody’s Talking, Nobody’s Listening’ on SubSoldiers/Fabric Records. With the space to experiment there’s more than a few surprises included, from London City’s achingly radio friendly Uncle Sam vocal, through to Back To 93’s Good Lookin’ homage and Victoria’s Secret’s down tempo Rhodes and trumpet combination. The jump up club bass side is also well represented, with the likes of Riot Powder and I Beat My Robot offering venue leveling potential galore. Early previews of Marmite, The Terminator and Victoria’s Secret can be found in our audio section, with a full track list below.

Gingy – March 2009

Canadian midrange rogue Gingy has been a bit quiet for a while – suffice to say that’s changing as we speak/type. First up is the appearance of debut single Rios For MVP in Sony’s upcoming PSP/PS2 videogame Motorstorm – Arctic Edge, one of Sony’s biggest game franchises and pretty much a dead cert for worldwide success. You can find a preview trailer below. Second on the Gingy-alert summary is inbound new material, and lots of it. We’ve been privy to an early listen and came away more than a little impressed. More news soon.

Cluekid – February 2009

Growing up in and around the Dubstep scene in Croydon, our latest signing’s just starting to hit his stride with a slew of recent releases. DJ partner to fellow Fabric Publishing artist Cotti, and Skream collaborator his sound’s defined as much by old school jungle breaks as 2 step and bass. Following the launch of his own label (Bullfrog) last year and with extensive DJ support from the likes of Hatcha, Benga and Chef expect to hear plenty more from him over the next few months, including an upcoming Soul Jazz 12” currently at the promo stage..

Electric Minds - February 2009

Responsible for some standout 12’s and seriously memorable parties (or not as the case maybe) over the last year or so, East London’s Electric Minds outfit have been steadily making a name for themselves with a musical policy that joins the dots between the last 30 years of dance culture. Lumped in with the current craze for all things Disco (a little unfairly in our view), both label and nights pride themselves on playing classic soul, funk, and disco alongside classic Chicago house, Detroit techno and contemporary electronic material. All things considered we’re very happy to announce that Fabric Publishing will be working in partnership with the label to publish its current and future releases, kicking off with a trio of releases from Chaz Jankel, Ilja Rudman and Free Disco. Full audio below, with Free Disco’s Psychedelic Symmetry being a particular highlight..

Caspa & Rusko - February 2009

While Caspa and Rusko slave away at their respective debut albums (more on those later..) renowned stable of bleeding edge directors Partizan Films have helped keep the hype fires burning by deploying the massively underappreciated ‘Bread Fi Bun’ on the trailer for their new feature film.

Turn It Loose is the debut feature by UK music promo wunderkind Alistair Siddons, who’s CV includes videos for The Streets, Roots Manuva, Mystery Jets and Kano, amongst many others. Following the progress of a group of competitors in the 2007 Soweto Red Bull One competition what we’ve seen so far offers a much needed alternative to contemporary B-Boying's role as TV talent show filler and chewing gum advertising aid – think Hoop Dreams meets Wildstyle and you’d be getting there. Have a look at said trailer below;

Martyn – January 2009

With a stellar year behind him, 2009 seems the perfect time for a full length Martyn album. Fresh from the mastering studio, we’re ludicrously pleased to confirm that we’ll be extending our partnership to cover this release, and the related singles. A whole bunch of radio show’s have begun playing preview tracks, including long time supporters Mary Ann Hobbes and Benji B, plus relatively recent converts Giles Peterson and Rob Da Bank. The press are also beginning to catch up with a profile piece in the latest issue of the ever affable Wire magazine and a whole heap of (continuing) support from the likes of Resident Advisor, DJ and MIxmag incoming. The beginning of February sees a series of album preview dates, with album launch parties at London’s FWD on February 7th and Berlin a few days later (ArenaClub February 77th) before finishing his schedule with a set at our parent venue as part of the widely acclaimed Dublime night. We’ll be uploading audio soon but you can get up to speed with the last couple of years output (plus upcoming Tectonic exclusive ‘Yet’) below

Vista – January 2009

One of our tips for 2009 success, Vista makes his Fabric debut this weekend in room 3, alongside Kutz, Luke Envoy and Blackdown & Dusk. You can get a sneak preview of what to expect by clicking here and downloading a recent studio mix showcasing some old Vista, new Vista and various Boom Bap associates. We’ve finally got the full complement of audio up on the site now too, which come highly recommended – Elixir and Lounge Dub remain office favourites here after a good 6 months of hammering..

End Of Year Round Up 2008 – December

No one could accuse us here of getting over enthusiastic about Xmas, but now seems as good a time as any to bid you all a happy holiday and a fine new year. Safe to say that we’re very happy indeed with how 2008’s panned out – we predicted big things back in May and sure enough this has turned out to be our biggest and best year so far. Particular congratulations to Radioactive Man, Walter Meego, Scuba, Minilogue, Style Of Eye, The Others, Starkey and Buraka Som Sistema, all of whom have released fantastic albums over the last 12 months. However, things will be getting yet bigger, and hopefully even better in 2009 – we’ve a whole host of new artists and projects to unveil in the new year, including what’s shaping up to be the album of the year if what we’ve heard so far’s anything to go by.. See below for a sneak preview of 2009, year end lists and a recent Youtube favourite.. Martyn @ Deep Space - Special Guest Martyn at Deep Space

Vista – December 2008

A long time in the works this one, but we’re well chuffed/relieved to finally announce that Fabric Publishing is now working with Boombap Recordings headman Vista. One of the finest newcomers we’ve heard all year and an insanely versatile Producer he’s already notched up DJ and Radio support from the like of Appleblim and Reso, with Fact Magazine another vocal supporter. We’ll be adding audio over Xmas, but Forcefield, Dulivan and the much acclaimed (and maddeningly unreleased) Elixir. Also, debut Fabric gig January 30th!

ID (& Baobinga) - December 2008

After adding Baobinga to our little club over summer we can now confirm that his partner in crime ID has also got on board, meaning Fabric Publishing now looks after 100% of Baobinga & ID’s ‘Big Monster’ album (which in our humble opinion towers over the rest of this years Breaks output like a giraffe trapped in a pig pen). In further Baobinga related news, we’ve just added TRG’s glorious remix of ‘State Of Ghetto Jackin’ to our audio page – think lush 2 step business minus any slavish retro Xeroxing, and thus highly recommended!

Ben Wijay – December 2008

A recent addition to our stable, the Oz dwelling Mr. Wijay is purveyor of some of the finest House we’ve heard in a long time. This years “Poisoned Potato” EP scooped a Mixmag ‘Tune Of The Month’ accolade and is a pretty great showcase for the man’s style – think Pepe Braddock-esque depth married to the quirk of prime time Akufen and informed by the Dirtybird crew’s appreciation of swing. With DJ support covering everyone from Grooove Armada to Claude VonStroke we reckon this is definitely a producer to keep an eye on in the coming year..

Rusko – November 2008

After spending 2008 playing out across the world, collaborating with some seriously big names (more on that another time..) and helping break Dubstep to a whole new audience you’d think Leeds premier synth and bass vandal would be due a Xmas break. Not so. Wednesday night saw DJ Magazine’s annual Best Of British awards come around, with the bible of high street club culture getting caught up in all manner of Dubstep hysteria - major congratulations due to our boy, who scooped the highly coveted Best Breakthrough DJ award. And what better way to celebrate than bagging an upcoming Radio 1 Essential Mix? December 13th will see Rusko on primetime national radio with a set rumoured to be extremely heavy on the new and unexpected. Be ready.

Starkey – November 2008

Today sees the (slightly delayed) release of Starkey’s debut album, out on the Planet Mu label and available on CD and triple Vinyl at any record store worth the name and digitally through all the usual suspects. Reviews, features and general outpourings of love have already come from Wire, Fact Magazine and Dazed & Confused, with support incoming from NME and I-D magazine too. We’ve been saying it a while but this is album of the year level stuff for us – as versatile as it is unique, and already picking up support from a diverse number of both club and Radio DJ’s. Copies of Starkey’s Moves!!! side project on the hotly tipped Dress 2 Sweat label are also starting to filter through – think an even heavier, more dancefloor oriented take on the Starkey sound and already terrorizing discothèques across this frozen land.

Maelstrom – November 2008

Arriving this week on Belgium’s esteemed (and Glimmer’s affiliated) alternative label of choice Eskimo, the new 12” from Glasgow’s Cosmic Disco Don Maelstrom is a proper treat. Both Assynt and b side Valdresfjellet continue previous single Enter The Cosmos’ winning way with equal parts atmosphere and slink, with Assynt picking up DJ support from the likes of Lindstromm and Pete Herbert, while the Studio reminiscent flipside’s cowbell and guitar fest is getting a particular caning on the office stereo. Click below for full length audio of the both.

Scuba – November 2008

With his debut album ‘A Mutual Antipathy’ prepped for end of year list ubiquity the last few weeks have seen Hotflush label head Scuba capping 2008 with a whole bunch of projects. In addition to curating Berlin’s blossoming Dubstep/Techno night Sub:Stance, the next month see’s the release of a series of remix 12’s, with a range of artists reworking album material. Reflecting his own disregard for scene convention, the new versions encompass Techno, Hip Hop and Electro, with our personal favorites including the bullet train techno of Martyn’s ‘The Upside’ remix and Jamie Vex’d’s curdled synth-hop take on ‘Twitch’. Finally, the ever attentive XLR8R magazine crew are the proud hosts of an XLR8R/Scuba podcast – listen here that showcases both his love of classic Italo and his not insubstantial remixing talents

Serge Santiago – November 2008

After a summer of across the board disco rehabilitation, Mr. Santiago’s profile is probably higher than ever helped in no small part by a continuing residency at Ibizia’s We Love night. Back in the UK, Serge has recently confirmed a new Saturday night residency for his Arcobaleno label at fresh faced East London venue Cube while most recently he’s been hard at work compiling a podcast for XLR8R magazine that showcases both his love of classic Italo and his not insubstantial remixing talents

Dub Police Takeover II – October 2008

This Friday (31st) sees the return of the Dub Police squad to our parent venue’s 3rd room. After witnessing last Friday’s madness we reckon this one’s likely to be a roadblock from the start, with The Others making their Fabric debut at 10pm before Caspa & Rusko headline with Cotti and Cluekid in support.

To get folk suitably prepared, label gaffer Caspa has been at work on a studio mix, more than ably hosted by Dub Police mic man Rod Azlan (also appearing on the night). Get dl’ing over here

ADE – October 2008

A swift ‘Dag’ to everyone we had the pleasure of meeting up with in Amsterdam this last week – always nice to put some faces to email addresses! Special mention also to the Fabric Publishing artists in town all of whom played absolute blinders, from Style Of Eye fitting his big room sound into a shoebox stripclub, Caspa, Cotti and crew turning a 1200 strong Paradiso into a frothing madhouse, to Justin Martin demolishing our preconceptions of what a K-Swiss instore would entail (we’ll admit we were a little skeptical). No doubt we’ll be seeing plenty of you again next year too.

The Others – October 2008

It’s taken a while but highly esteemed low end hooligans Dub Police are finally dropping The Others debut mini-LP on an unsuspecting public. ‘The Otherside’ reaches discerning record stores at the start of this morning and does the best possible job of showcasing the versatility of the boys sound, from the anticipated gut wrenching of Africa VIP to Kind Of Blue’s much praised atmospherics. Highly, highly recommended, not to mention album cover of the year.

Starkey – October 2008’

We’re more than a little proud to announce that we’ll be continuing to work with Starkey for his forthcoming debut album, ‘Ephemeral Exhibits’, out November on venerable UK imprint Planet Mu. Consisting of everything from intricate floor fillers to plaintive down tempo tracks it’s an incredibly strong debut, and one we seriously doubt you’ll hear matched this year. We’ll also be working with Starkey on his MOVES!!! side project, showcasing his more 4x4 influenced antics, and due to drop on hotly tipped Glaswegian label Dress2Sweat in the next few weeks. Lead track ‘Playaz’ was previewed on Radio 1 just this week and is a pretty safe bet for a floor filler. ..And finally, speaking of Radio 1 you can now see highlights of Starkey’s Generation Bass slot below, thanks to the Mary Anne Hobbs teams diligent uploading. Probably both the loudest and coldest radio session we’ve ever had the privilege to attend..

Ramadanman – September 2008

Not long after signing with us, Ramadanman got to work remixing Fabric Records forthcoming Howie B Vs. Casino Royale single, ‘Royale Sound’. Taking the original in a similar 4x4 direction that the likes of Shackleton and Kode 9 have been exploring recently the track adds a whole new layer to the raved over Ramadanman sound. US Electronica bible XLR8R are previewing the mix as an exclusive download before it’s released here so we humbly suggest you get clicking.

Style Of Eye – September 2008

Due out 10th October is ‘Duck Cover & Hold’ the debut album from Stockholm’s fast rising Style Of Eye. Still basking in the glow of May’s “The Big Kazoo” underground anthem (on Dirtybird Records no less) the full length see’s (hears?) the Tech House marvel develop his sound into something even bigger and more anthemic than before. Pre release buzz has already seen the likes of Pete Tong (gulp) hammering a selection of tracks, and we have an inkling the man named ‘Eye might be about to cross over in a serious way...

Walter Meego – September 2008

Currently busying themselves with the sort of tour itinerary that young American bands relish (and young UK bands limp away from mewling like newborn kittens) Walter Meego are busy, busy boys indeed. Lead single ‘Forever’ has been getting plenty of attention, helped in no small part by it’s appearance on both the current Stateside Heineken TV campaign plus cropping up regularly in Ugly Betty(along with ‘In My Dreams’) while early track ‘Wanna Be A Star’ has soundtracked scenes in the latest series of CSI. In the meantime a bountiful haul of remixes have recently turned up, now added to our audio page. Particular highlights are the much blogged Van She and Escort reworkings of ‘Forever’.

Baobinga – August 2008

A guaranteed highlight of any FabricLive line up, and a much needed bastion of originality and energy in the breaks scene we’ve pleased to confirm we’ll be working with Manchester’s Baobinga. The new partnership covers the post breaks sound of the recent Fat! released album with ID, ‘Big Monster’, as well as a variety of singles including the FabricLive 43 featured ‘State Of Ghetto Jackin’ and it’s filthed up Acid antics. The whole lot are up in our audio section as of now and deserve to be heard very loud indeed.

Ramadanman – August 2008

Co-founder of the widely acclaimed label Hessle Audio, hailed as one of the most exciting new DJ’s in Dubstep and counting the patronage of everyone from Villalobos to Kode 9, our latest signing has had a stellar 2008. His recent podcast for NYC’s Dubwar party is a great introduction to his techno and deep house indebted take on Dubstep and from what we’ve heard there’s even better to come yet.. Full audio available below.

Starkey - August 2008

This past Saturday saw some of the best new Dubstep, Grime and Hip Hop talent descend on the BBC’s venerable Maida Vale studios for the recording of Generation Bass, a new music special for Radio 1’s Mary Anne Hobbs show. The sequel to 2006’s Dubstep Warz show that broke the likes of Skream, Benga and Mala to a global audience, this year saw an insanely strong line up get together to record their mini-sets sequentially, with Fabric Publishing’s Starkey the sole non-UK guest. The show will broadcast this Tuesday night (19th August) and will be available on the BBC’s MAH show site for a week from that date onwards. The entire special acts as a fantastic showcase for emerging talent with (call us biased) Starkey’s turn the highlight, acting as an amazing quick fire preview of his debut album. More news of which soon...

Minilogue - August 2008

A recent addition to the gang, our partnership with Minilogue has got off to a flying start with new album ‘Animals’ highlight ‘Hitchhikers Choice’ becoming the new Brand Theme for Carphone Warehouse for the next 12 months. An evolution of Minilogue’s widely acclaimed (not to mention seen – 3,000,000 YouTube hits and counting) video collaboration with Swedish animator Kristopher Storm, you can check the advert here and also see the original version here. In other Minilogue news, first album single ‘Jamaica’ has recently lodged it’s self at the top of the Beatport chart and shows little inclination to move on. Both discs of the double album plus various 12” only tracks can be heard in our ever swelling music section.

Wolfgang Gartner - July 2008

Having recently had his cover blown by the good folk at Beatport we figured it was about time to shine the spotlight on an artist that was discreetly added to these pages a few weeks back. As some of you are probably already aware, Wolfgang Gartner is in fact the latest alias of Southern state House don Joey Youngman. Never afraid of an alias or ten, Joey’s latest incarnation has proved a runaway success with the big room crowd so far, snagging a Pete Tong ‘Essential New Tune of the Week’ accolade, a seemingly endless stream of top 10 Beatport releases and even comparisons to current stadium techno coming man Deadmau5. Crossover anthems in waiting can be found over in our music section...

Shlomi Aber / Be As One - July 2008

With last years debut album (Renaissance’s first ever Artist album incidentally) still attracting plenty of new admirers it’d be easy to overlook Mr. Aber’s own Tel Aviv based imprint, Be As One... or at least it would be if said labels output wasn’t relentlessly from the top drawer. Upfront releases from the man himself, including the Hot Chip championed (?!) ‘In Theory Yes’ have shared the spotlight with emerging Israeli artists including Gel Abril and Itamar Sagi. We’ll be adding audio in the next couple of weeks so keep an ear out...

Fabric Publishing Festival Roundup - July 2008

As you may have noticed we’re deep in festival season (in the UK at least) and once again Fabric Publishing artists are popping up on bills across the country. This weekend sees both the Lovebox Weekender in London’s Victoria Park and Glade Festival (somewhere just north of London if we remember right..) fling open their gates.

Lovebox Festival (London) – Saturday 19th July; Guillaume & The Coutu Dumonts
Sunday 20th July; Buraka Som Sistema (Live)

Glade Festival – Saturday 19th July; Billy Nasty, Claude VonStroke, Mr. No Hands
Sunday 20th July; Tayo, Caspa & Rusko

Scuba – July 2008

About this time last year Paul Rose aka Scuba joined our merry band of noise vandals, shortly after leaving our jaws somewhere round our ankles with his wildly variaed but defiantly left field take on Dubstep. Fast forward 12 months and the Hotflush Recordings head has witnessed the unstoppable growth of his label, relocated to Berlin and most pertinently, dropped a debut album ‘A Mutual Antipathy’ to cross-scene praise. We’ve recently agreed to represent the album as part of our deal with Paul and will be adding audio shortly. Watch out for a remix from another highly touted Fabric Publishing artist too..

Djinxx – June 2008

Head of France’s highly regarded Mezzotinto label, and fresh from his appearance on M.A.N.D.Y.’s Fabric mix, Djinxx has just been added to the Fabric Publishing stable in time for his first release on John Digweed’s Bedrock imprint. The ‘Incarnation’ 12” has been generating a very big buzz indeed, with Lord Digweed himself hammering the track at every available opportunity. You can hear the original and various mixes in our Music section now, along with the M.A>N.D.Y. loved ‘Spanish Kebab’ and it’s flipside ‘Parasol’.

Minilogue – June 2008

Back in the spring of 2007 we were lucky enough to hear Minilogue’s Wagon Repair 12”, ‘Elephants Parade’ and were hooked more or less instantly - one trip to live show later and we were even more determined to get the guys on board, one way or another.. With the release of the debut (double) album ‘Animals’ on Cocoon we’re delighted to announce that the Swedish duo have signed with Fabric Publishing. Sound clips for both discs of the album now reside in the audio section of this site and illustrate the extent of the pair’s talent, disc 1 providing club friendly techno and house influenced sounds while the second part of the album takes inspiration from the Ambient like’s of Brian Eno, Harold Budd, Aphex Twin and Boards Of Canada. Very highly recommended indeed.

Leon Segka – June 2008

Greek Techno pioneer and boss of N-Trop Records, Leon recently released his Monsanto EP to acclaim from the likes of Loco Dice, Ricardo Villalobos and Craig Richards. We’ve just added audio to the website, with the title track in particular being a fantastic late night/early morning floor filler, and will be adding some excellent remixes very soon too.

DZI – June 2008

We’ve recently signed Tech House ambassador Luke Dzierzek’s (who’s track ‘Echoes’ you may recall from last years Citroen dancing robot car ad) new DZI project. Debut 12” ‘Unleash’ bw ‘The Beast’ blew us away on first listen and is currently terrorizing discerning dance floors across Europe. Click clack below for full audio streams..

Fabric Publishing Event II – June 2008

A very big Thank You to everyone who made it down for our second Fabric Publishing Showcase. Needless to say we had a great time seeing a whole bbunch of new faces and plenty of familiar ones too. Hope you all enjoyed yourselves as much as we did and look forward to seeing you all soon. Keith Tenniswood – June 2008

Following on from last week’s free Starkey Remix of ‘State Of That’, full streaming audio has now been added for the entire ‘Growl’ album (recently released to widespread critical acclaim), a host of previously unheard remixes, and various Two Lone Swordsmen related tracks from the last few years (including the Andrew Weatherall solo track ‘Feathers’, currently all over a certain Volkswagen TV spot). Starkey - June 2008

Any of you with a half decent memory might remember us ranting and raving about Philadelphia Producer/DJ Starkey towards the end of last year. Fresh from turning in a promo only remix for Radioactive Man’s ‘State Of That’ track (DL here – trust us, you won’t regret it) and having his currently unreleased ‘Gutter Music’ get it’s UK radio debut thanks to Mary-Ann Hobbes (sorry, you’ll have to wait for that one..), our boy turned up in London and proceeded to turn Room 3 of our club into a frothing sea sub-low fiends. Hold tight for that new material, and in the meantime grab that remix as fast as you can..

Cotti – June 2008

A rising star of the Dubstep scene and responsible for cross genre anthem in waiting ‘Calm Down’, we’re more than happy to confirm that we’ll be working with Cotti and his material. Anyone who’s heard ‘Calm Down’ or ‘The Legacy’ with Cluekid knows the Brixton boy is one of the most versatile producers out there, but wait til you hear what’s coming next..

King Cannibal – May 2008

Warp Records alumni Zilla has been pushing a new strain of digital dancehall mania for a while now, lapped up by the likes of Erol Alkan and Mary Anne Hobbs to name but a few. Last month saw his King Cannibal alias sign to Ninja Tune for an upcoming album project after extensive patronage from label bedrocks DJ Food and Amon Tobin. If you’re after dark atmospheric production that pays no heed to genre straitjacketing or scene orthodoxy we suggest you get up to speed with the self proclaimed King of the Dancehall double quick...

Sebastian San – May 2008

Sebastian grew up in France a fan of early electronic music such as Kraftwerk and Giorgio Moroder. His debut album "Duel" on Gigolo Records marked arrived early in 2007 with the track "Wuxia" particularly well received. 2008 has seen the ‘Rising Sun’ 12” released on Planet-E, featuring the original track alongside one of label boss Carl Craig’s trademark remixes, and has already been hammered by the likes of Luciano and C2 himself..

Keith Tenniswood – May 2008

We’re extremely chuffed to have signed an exclusive deal with Keith Tenniswood formerly one half of Two Lone Swordsmen (with Andrew Weatherall). Our deal will cover the last few years of 2LS material (including “Feathers”, as featured on the latest VW Tiago advert) and Keith’s new Radioactive Man album “Growl”, released on Control Tower Records through Fabric Records’ records operation within the next week.

Guillaume & The Coutu Dumonts – May 2008

Montreal ex-pat and a pillar of the Mutek affiliated scene out there, Guillaume is fresh from releasing his debut album ‘Face a l’est’ on Akufen’s Musique Risque label (which might just be the best house album we’ve heard in the last 12 months). A classically trained percussionist with a background in African field recording his fantastically musical productions have picked up DJ support from the likes of Luciano, Four Tet and Tobi Neumann. Definitely one to check out!

Serge Santiago – May 2008

Proof that good things come to those who wait, we’ve finally managed to persuade Serge to sign his considerable and versatile catalogue to Fabric Publishing including the wonderful Italo influenced “Atto D’Amore”. Equally influenced by Italo and Sunday afternoon minimal sessions, and a prolific remixer (check out his rework of Hercules & Love Affair’s Blind on the Simian Mobile Disco upcoming FabricLive CD) we’re very happy to have got him in the end!

Martyn – May 2008

When he’s not guesting on Skream’s radio show, blowing away genre convention at FWD or collaborating with the likes of Marcus Intalex, our hyperactive Dutchman has been busy setting up his own label, 3024 for both his own and others productions. We’ll be adding releases as they come and have started off with the labels first 2 12”s, both by the man himself.

Dub Police Radio1 Takeover – May 2008

Next Tuesday (May 20th to be precise) sees Fabric Publishing artist Caspa guide his Dub Police clan into the driving seat of Mary-Ann Hobbes Radio1 show. Alongside the label head himself will be two of our most recent signings, Orien and The Others, as well as newcomer Unitz and Dub Police’s MC of choice Roddy Azlan. Things kick off at 2am but to get in the mood we’d suggest a full exploration of The Others discography (audio link below) followed by an airing for Caspa’s latest tracks (‘Lions Raw’ and his remix of Rusko’s ‘Cockney Thug’ are currently annoying the office upstairs).

New Audio – May 2008

Not to put too fine a point on it, but 2008 is shaping up to be both the biggest and best year in Fabric Publishing’s young life. We’ve got a whole raft of announcements and signings on the way over the next few weeks, but before we get started with those we’ve already upped a huge amount of brand new audio. Check out a stack of new tracks from Rusko for a starter below..

Lucio Aquilina – April 2008

After building an enormous buzz with his Cocoon debut ‘Magic M’ throughout last year (and having it’s B-Side ‘My Cube’ pop up on M.A.N.D.Y.’s Fabric mix) we’re very happy to be representing the rising Italian producers above material. Name checked by a huge range of DJ’s and set for a very prolific 2008 we’re already looking forward to his new tracks...

Maelstrom – April 2008

And now for something completely different... Glasgow’s Maelstrom treads a similar path to the likes of Todd Terje, Lindstrom and Rub-n-Tug. With a shed load of unofficial re-edits under his belt he’s recently begun work on original material, under a variety of aliases. His work as Maelstrom is the first to see release on the N.E.W.S. affiliated Eskimo with a 12” release for his ‘Petrichor’ track due in spring and (unsurprisingly) comes highly recommended. A mid-paced psychedelic disco epic with a distinct Asian influence this should find a audience both appreciative and large over summer. Some big name remixes are also on the way – update on those soon...

The Others & Orien – April 2008

Protégés of DubPolice Emperor Caspa, both acts debuted on the aforementioned and Rusko’s FabricLive mix last year. The Others sound takes the darker material of their label boss such as Well ‘Ard and goes down from there. Standout’s include the Caspa collaboration ‘Africa VIP’ (from FabricLive 37) and ‘Kind Of Blue’, a fantastic showcase for the guys more subtle side.
Orien’s sound is noticeable for a heavy tech-step influence, bearing the mark of Virus recordings and early Square Pusher in his combination of heaving bass and drill bit synths. Again featuring on FabricLive 37 with the uncharacteristically restrained ‘Rainbow Teardrops’, check for ‘Look Into My Eyes’ for a taste of just how out there Dubstep can be pushed..

Beatport Awards 2008 – March 2008

Voting opened 18th March but there’s still plenty of time to get your nominations in for Beatport’s inaugural awards ceremony. There’s a whole host of category’s for the various genres and scenes the digital behemoth covers but we’ll be concentrating on the Fabric Publishing contingents chances here.

Best Minimal Artist see’s Shlomi Aber up against a host of Europe’s finest while AudioFly X and Claude VonStroke square up in the Best Tech House category and finally Gregor Tresher pops up in Best Techno Artist. Far be it for us to try and influence the results, but voting is open until the 22nd April. Just so you know...

Worthy - March 2008

Some of the more diligent Dirtybird watchers among you may recall a 12” emblazoned with the legend ‘Irst_te?’ appearing in discerning vinyl stockists during the second half of 2007. That was San Francisco’s Worthy making his debut for the label, with a thoroughly acidic banger and one of Claude VonStroke’s more understated remixes on the flip. Alongside his Dirtybird work (and additional releases on West Coast institution Utensil and the UK’s LeftRoom) Worthy’s been hard at work developing his own label, Katabatic as an additional home for his own productions with likes of ‘Bass Quake’ and ‘Mummer’ picking up support from Sven Vath and Ben Watt. All the above tracks are up on our Audio page as of now, with more on the way soon (‘Bass Quake’ comes particularly recommended).

Buraka Som Sistema – March 2008

Having finally managed to break out of the studio Buraka Som Sistema are on their way back to London for a half-week of rabble-rousing across the capital. Things kick off on March 19th at Hoxton Bar & Kitchen with a full live set at the intimate East London venue/infamous A&R haunt before heading over to Notting Hill Art Clubs YoYo for a DJ and MC set the following night. Room 1 at Fabric marks the final destination on the tour and if it’s anything like the last visit you really don’t want to miss it. As an appetizer, check out the video for the new single, ‘Sound Of Kudoru’ featuring M.I.A., Angolan legend DJ Znobia and a host of Kudoru MC’s. Shot while recording material for their album in Angola this is the perfect catch-up for any of you not up to speed yet.

Scratch Perverts - February 2008

Just a quick announcement to say that Scratch Perverts ‘Stand By’ will once again be sound tracking Lucozade’s spring and summer TV campaign this year. The track originally featured on Lucozade’s Summer 2006/World Cup TV campaign to widespread acclaim and we fully expect it to be caked all over prime time TV by the time you read this...

Gingy - February 2008

It’s great to finally be able to confirm the addition of Toronto’s Gingy to our ever expanding stable of noise urchins. Currently prepping his debut release on his homegrown More Proof collective, Gingy purveys an ultra distorted electro sound that crams more ideas into individual tracks then most people manage in an entire album.

With DJ support from the likes of MSTRKRFT we suspect you’ll be hearing a whole load more from Gingy this year... Get yourselves over to the music page to hear both ‘Rios For MVP’s scorched earth assault and the uptempo synth riffing of ‘Swagger’

Tayo - February 2008

Just a quick note that in between concocting one of 2008’s hottest tracks (Style & Trend’s searing future ragga with Baobinga and Spyda, out now on Soul Jazz) and maintaining an intercontinental DJ schedule (Drop The Lime’s bleeding edge Trouble & Bass night plays host to him this Friday in New York) sub-low pioneer Tayo has managed to get himself nominated for Breakspoll 2008’s Best DJ award. Nice to see the panel recognize some of the more.. open minded DJ’s in their scene.

Rusko & Caspa - February 2008

Safe to say that since December’s FabricLive CD, Caspa and Rusko have been busy, busy boys. Rusko’s most recent port of call was Ras Kwame’s Radio 1 show. Backed up by MC Rod Azlan, he contributed a half hour guest mix of current scene anthems and plentiful exclusives. Something of a stranger to the concept of writers block, the Leedsman packed his set with a stack of new and unreleased dubplates from his personal collection as well as some choice new tracks from frequent partner in crime Caspa. Full audio and track list can be found here

Claude VonStroke - January 2008

It’s an uncomfortable truth that the majority of electronic music (and especially dance music) video’s tend to slip into the sort of knuckle dragging cliché’s and lowest common denominator meat parades that would embarrass the average Nuts reader. All very well if you happen to be the proprietor of a town centre alchopop bar, but rather dispiriting for anyone clinging to the notion that music video’s can be anything othere than hastily edited commercials.
Fortunately our man in San Fran has swooped down with a new clip for his hometown anthem ‘Who’s Afraid Of Detroit’, and to say we’re blown away would be something of an understatement. If Detroit’s tourist board haven’t already pressed this into service then they should. Maybe.

Buraka Som Sistema – January 2008

As antidote’s to Januarys month of murk go you could do a lot worse than get familiar with Buraka Som Sistema’s post-Kudoru juggernaut of a single ‘Yah!’, ideally at a volume approaching ‘pet slaying’. And it turns out FACT Magazine agree with us! In their 2007 year end issue ‘Yah!’ scoops the prize for ‘Best Twelve Inch Of The Year’ for Modular Record’s summer UK release of the track. Besides it’s ‘lurching, urgent, exotic bass-bin popping energy’, the Lisbon based crew have ‘..used technology and a truly global attitude to music making to bring themselves worldwide recognition in an incredibly short space of time’. Outside of the vinyl realm FACT love continues in their ‘Top 100 Tracks of 2007’ with Yah! sneaking in at #13. Besides inducing a frothing mania in journalists, the guys are also putting the finishing touches to a debut album that should arrive just in time for summer. Trust us when we say the wait will be more than worth it..
